Update: Creative Scrapbooker, Hancock Fabrics, Pantone
February has kicked off with some interesting news out of some of the industry's largest organizations...and some good news for some of its biggest names.
Canadian Scrapbooker - soon to be Creative Scrapbooker
Changes. Canadian Scrapbooker magazine, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary of publication, has changed its name to Creative Scrapbooker magazine effective January 1st. The publication is now accepting submissions from outside of Canada. The new name will begin appearing on the magazine's cover with the Spring 2016 issue, which will also be the first issue of the magazine to appear on Barnes & Noble newsstands.
Financial. Hancock Fabrics has filed for bankruptcy for the second time. The 250 store chain filed for Chapter 11 restructuring on February 2nd, and is reportedly considering the possibility of selling itself.
Media. A couple of popular industry names have been in the media spotlight recently. Jennifer Priest was recognized by NBC News for her blog as one of its "10 Latina Bloggers You Should Be Watching" for 2016. (I work with Jennifer on the Layout-A-Week website.)
Teen vlogger Tanner Bell was recognized by PR Week as one of their Gen Z "New Influencers" - new media influencers that are important marketing influences with Gen Z.
Last but not least, perennial CHA favorites Kizer & Bender made the Top 50 Retail Blogs list from UK-based consultants RetailVision with their Retail Adventures blog.
Promotions. The Craft & Hobby Association has undergone major staff shuffling in the last month. Jason Baum has been promoted to Membership Director, and Maureen Walsh is now Vice President of Membership & Marketing. Finally, in a not too surprising move, Mark Hill's position as CEO of the Craft & Hobby Association has been made permanent.
Trends. Pantone has issued its Fall 2016 Fashion Color Report. The palette is largely filled with blue, gray, and shades of red and pink. An emerald green shade in the mix, along with some bright red, may foreshadow a traditional palette of holiday colors again this year.
